$599 10" Viewsonic Tablet Takes On iPad 2 With Better Specs

ViewSonic has chosen the day Apple launches its iPad 2 to try and spruik their new Viewpad 10 which has similar features to the new iPad and will sell for $599, same price tipped for the new entry level iPad.Sporting HDMI 1080p output capability, the new Viewsonic device is not running the new Honeycomb 3.0 Android OS. Instead it has the older Android 2.2 OS which is surprising considering the battle ground ahead, which is is going to be a head on collision between Google Honeycomb and Apple iOs 4, which was revealed today.

The new device has flash 10.1 capability and a dual core 1GHz processor with the powerful NVIDIA Tegra 2 display engine.

What this tab has over the iPad2 is USB and Micro SD card and SIM card capability.

It also has 3D speakers and provides a full spectrum of multimedia features, its makers said in its press announcement today.

The device also promises “smoother web surfing experience, shorter response time, unparalleled gaming exhilaration and longer battery life.”

Supporting high resolution audiovisual entertainment, the device also features a 1.3mega-pixel front camera, plus the 10-inch LED backlight and multi-touch screen and has access to a wide suite of audiovisual media files, internet TV and broadcast programs.

 

It is also Wi-Fi enabled and has access to 200,000 apps through Android’s marketplace, in addition to Google Maps, Voice Search, Gmail, Youtube and other social communication tools and mobile office software.

The device, which has a price tag of $599, is highly portable weighing in at 730 g and 14.35mm wide.
