3C or 3G For New Apple iPhone?

By David Richards & Computer Daily News | Tuesday | 2008-05-06

While Australia is one of the last Countries to get the Apple iPhone after Europe and the USA it does appear that we will be one of the first to get the new 3G phone which is set to announced by Steve Jobs later this month.

lready a war has kicked off between three telecommunication carriers with Vodafone officially confirming that they will sell the hot new mobile and both Telstra and Optus hinting that they have secured a deal.

It also appears that iPhone decision regarding the Australian market have been taken out of the hands of Apple Australia with Apple in the USA doing all the negotiations.

Late yesterday Vodafone struck first blow in the battle to announce an agreement with Apple to sell its intensely popular iPhone in Australia, as well as nine other countries round the globe. However At 4.30pm Apple Australia Australia said that they knew nothing about the deal.

Vodafone announced the deal in a terse one-sentence press release. The release did not claim exclusivity for the deal in Australia, nor did it make any mention of a 3G model of the iPhone ¬ widely tipped for release in June.
And it didn't mention pricing.

But the betting was that other Australian carriers including Optus ¬ tipped by ZDNet last week to be a non-exclusive iPhone reseller ¬ might also get the chance to offer the hot-selling smart phone in competition with Apple's own online store and its soon-to-open Apple Stores in Sydney. Optus remained silent on the matter yesterday.
