In 2008 Google Australia reported losses of $8M on revenues of $89M. Financial documents lodged with the Australian Companies and Securities Commission also reveal that Google had to restate their losses in 2008.
In 2007 Google understated losses by $3,787,828 and in 2008 by $6,288,832. They claim that the problem was caused by an error in the recognition of the value of share based payment expenses in prior years.
Investigations by ChannelNews has also revealed that Google Australia has a service agreement with Google Ireland to provide sales and marketing services. Ireland for many International IT Companies is a tax free haven.
Financial records lodged with the Australian Companies and Securities Commission reveal that Google who operate from shiny new digs in Pyrmont spend nearly a million dollars a year on rent and $81 million on employee benefits and expenses.
Google's headquarters is often referred to as the Googleplex which is a combination of the words "Google" and "complex" and it appears from their latest financials that life at the Googleplex is pretty good while costing the Company potential profits.
Located right next to the casino in Sydney, the new Google offices have its own café where employees gather to eat free food.
Snack rooms stocked with goodies ranging from chocolate to healthy foods like carrots and yogurt are also available. Game rooms with video games, football, pool tables and ping-pong are also provided for. There is also water views along with toys for when the going gets tough.
In addition to these amenities, Google employees receive a comprehensive benefits package that includes medical and dental coverage, but also a host of other services.
These include in some cases tuition reimbursement, and access to a child care centre.
