Australia is defying global PC markets as Australians take to new PC designs according to Intel Australia CEO Kate Burleigh, who is predicting strong sales running into the end of the year as new designs built around Intel processors are released.

Yesterday ASUS (Asustek Computer) announced sales of US$1.25 billion for August, up 18% on the month. The Asia Pacific region of which Australia is a key Country was a major contributor.

While ASUS was down 3.2% year on year local management is confident that they have the right model line-up to compete as vendors jostle for shelf space at local retailers.

Asustek pointed out that the PC industry has started improving recently and its PC inventory in Asia Pacific markets are “back to healthy levels”.

The Company is confident that consumers will want to upgrade their PC’s to new designs and Windows 10 models.

The Taiwanese Company said that as the Australian dollar slides, Asustek is taking measures that will see product prices increase in coming weeks.

Asustek originally expected its notebook shipments to reach 4.8 million units in the third quarter, but the final volume may be 1-5% less. Asustek’s ZenFone smartphone series continues to see strong demand and is not affected much by the exchange rate issue and therefore the shipments are expected to reach Asustek’s original target.

For third-quarter 2015, Asustek expects to ship 600,000 desktop PCs, six million smartphones and 1.8 million tablets. Having shipped eight million smartphones in the first half of the year, Asustek is expected to ship at least 21 million smartphones in 2015.
