BigPond seems poised to take a huge chunk of the Australian blogging market with the launch of a blog site for its subscribers.

Available only to BigPond members, the blog will be allocated 10MB storage for content including photos, videos and sound files. Use of the blog is unmetered for BigPond ADSL, Cable and Wireless Broadband customers. Dial and Satellite customers’ usage will count towards their plan’s monthly usage allowance.

Dubbed BigBlog, the service is also integrated with mobile phone technology so people can update their blog while on the road. The new service is targeted at personal bloggers, but groups can join in as an additional five mobile numbers can be nominated to upload pictures, texts and video to each BigBlog site.

Once your 10MB is full, users can increase their storage capacity, for a price. As an indication, 100MB additional space will cost $2.50 per month.

BigPond Group Managing Director, Justin Milne, said BigBlog made it simple for individuals and families to join the rapidly growing international blogging community.

“The number of personal weblogs is expected to rise to over 60 million worldwide this year according to a report by global consulting firm Deloitte, showing the surging popularity of interactive online communication and the growing market opportunity for blogs,” said Milne.

BigPond members can log onto www.bigblog.com.au to set up their user details, choose one of the 20 templates on offer and start blogging.
