The Commonwealth Bank is offering its customers a free six month version of McAfee Internet Security.Aimed specifically at customers of its online banking protocol, NetBank, the anti-virus program is available from the Offers & Apply page as a downloadable six month trial.

The partnership between Commonwealth Bank and McAfee is part of the IT security company’s global marketing strategy that has seen it deal directly with multinational corporations and banks.

A similar offer was made with Bank of America customers in the US previously.

With Commonwealth Bank sinking many security resources into NetBank which services 5.5 million customers, McAfee’s Director for Consumer Sales in Australia, Monica Kelly says that the partnership is more of a consumer educational move than anything else.

On McAfee’s end, customers who wish to keep their subscription with the security software after the six month trial have to pay for it (with a 25% discount) while Commonwealth Bank’s general aim is to educate consumers on the need for online security.
