Both contractors already working on NBN projects have firmly denied reports in today’s AFR they are set to abandon the next round of NBN contracts to be rolled out next month, which are worth around $1.6 billion.

There was also fears this rollout strife would increase the cost of $36bn NBN and delay the project deadline(s) of 2015/2020.

Silcar dismissed reports it, along with Transfield, were set to abandon the fibre broadband rollout as “manifestly untrue.”

“Silcar has tendered for every component of the NBN offered to it,” the company said in a statement.

The company also said it “remains 100% committed to the nation building project both for the work we have in hand and for additional work in the future.”

Earlier today NBN Co also denied any major contractors were pulling out, saying the report is “patently untrue as both Silcar and Transfield have confirmed independently today.”

And what about other contractors, including Lend Lease?

“All existing construction contractors are committed to the project and are keen to bid for additional work,” a NBN spokesperson said.

And far from scaling back, “the rollout of the NBN is well and truly ramping up,” NBN Co said in a statement today.
