A leading UK digital radio developer is cashing in on the beginnings of a possible digital radio boom in Australia with the launch of a local business developed in conjunction with Commercial Radio Australia.

The company, All In Media (AIM), is based in Sydney and is the first international operation for the business which develops DAB (digital audio broadcasting) data applications such as interactive services.

A prototype Electronic Programme Guide (EPG) and ‘Visual DAB’ slideshow service and software have been created for a compatible mobile phone for demonstration to radio stations and other potential business partners.

AIM and Commercial Radio Australia have also developed a multimedia management tool dubbed ‘Aim Rapid’ for radio stations which will allow broadcasters on the trial multiplex to more easily manage their existing data services, according to AIM. Planned for introduction next month, Aim Rapid will also allow Australian radio stations to launch new multimedia channels.

“Australian radio has been at the forefront of recent technical innovation in digital radio, from its work in the development of the DAB+ standard through to showcasing interactive applications. I am pleased to be able to work more closely with Australian broadcasters over the coming months to help them launch new and innovative data services,” said AIM managing director, Chris Gould.

Commercial Radio Australia CEO said: “We welcome All in Media’s investment in developing digital opportunities and their support for the rollout of digital radio in Australia.”
