Epson has launched a budget multi-function printer aimed squarely at the SMB user. The CX5500 retails at $99 and features hi-res printing capability, scanner, copier and fax.
Epson claims the Stylus CX5500 has print speeds of up to 25ppm, utilising its patented BorderFree printing in A4, 4×6 and 5×7 inch sizes.
It is capable of printing at up to 5760 optimised dpi, generating sharp images and text using Epson’s patented Variable Sized Droplet technology and MicroPiezo print head, which produces medium sized dots for placing solid colour quickly, and finer dots for areas of gradation and blending, thereby increasing print speed.
Cartridges for the CX5500 start from $8.99, and the printer is configured to allow users to choose between standard or low cost individual colour Intellidge ink cartridges which enable the replacement of only the ink cartridge that has been used.
The integrated scanner supports 600x1200dpi, with a pixel depth of 48-bit input and 24-bit output, along with auto skew adjustment software. It also has Epson PhotoEnhance software with colour balancing and other features to reduce shadowed faces, backlit images and dull colouring.
The Epson Stylus CX5500 provides for PC-free copying and comes with Epson Creativity Suite to simplify web printing, along with a fit-to-page utility that detects original document sizes, adjusting the zoom according to the paper’s printable areas to reduce the need for cropping.
It is sold through CE retailers, computer superstores, mass merchandisers, office superstores and selected photo specialty stores.
