Facebook is dangerous and needs to be shut down, and ‘hacktivists’ Anonymous say they are up to the job.

In true Armageddon style (cue dramatic music and blurry computer voice over), notorious hackers Anonymous have posted a You Tube video warning that Facebook is to be “destroyed” on Guy Fawkes Day, November 05.

Addressing “citizens of the world…we wish to get your attention and heed the warning” the video begins.

The self proclaimed hacktivists say the social tool 750 million users love and adore, along with all beloved photos and personal information, is on the way out, (but we’ll thank them one day).

Why? For our own good, apparently. Anonymous, in eerie tones, claim The Social Network are selling members information to security companies and governments, including those pesky totalitarians in  Egypt and Syria so they can “spy on you”. Yikes.

“Facebook has been selling information to government agencies and giving clandestine access to information security firms so that they can spy on people from all around the world.”

“Everything that is on Facebook, stays on Facebook, regardless of your settings, and can be recovered at any time.”

Oh, and forget running to your PC now to press ‘delete’ on your Face account.  “Facebook knows more about you then your family. You cannot hide from the reality,” the hackers warn.

Deleting your account is “impossible” as all the information stays on the network and can be recovered “at any time”.

The day, November 05, will “go down in history”, declare the hackers thought to be behind the Sony PlayStation and Nintendo cyber attacks earlier this year.
And it looks like the organisation, whose breakaway group, Lulzsec, saw several leading members arrested just last week, may be on the recruitment trail saying: “if you want to protect the freedom of information, then join the cause.”

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg must be fuming.

The You Tube video already has had over 800,000 hits already and over 17,000 ‘likes’ from viewers and over 1,000 ‘dislikes’

“One day you will look back on this and realise what we have done here is right, you will thank the rulers of the internet, we are not harming you but saving you.”

Referring to the UK riots, the rebellious hackers are looking to get some attention back to their cyber antics: “The riots are under way. It is not a battle over the future of privacy and publicity. It is a battle for choice and informed consent.”

“We do not forgive or forget, expect us,” the video concludes.

So, is Twitter next? Double yikes.
