Foxtel exec lands top job on sports network. Patrick Delany is to take the reins from David Malone, who held the top spot for 12 years, Foxtel said today.

This management reshuffle comes as Foxtel CEO recently conceded subscriber growth was suffering at the hands of free TV, he told a Pay TV conference last month.

Delany who has been with the network since 2002 was “critical” to the launch of FOXTEL Digital, and other staples including iQ, HD, Xbox 360, and T-box services, will be taking the reins from David Malone, who held the top job for 12 years.

Delany has also been credited as driving its sales operations during the GFC attaining some of the highest sales in Foxtel’s history, so CEO Kim Williams must be hoping he can work the same magic in its sports division.

“Patrick Delany is one of the most outstanding executives I have ever worked with,” Williams said today, and “played a key part in transforming Australia’s television landscape.”

I am really looking forward to working with Patrick and Fox Sports in partnership as we move towards offering customers greater breadth and depth of coverage,” he added.

His incumbent, David Malone, helped oversee transformation of the channel – taking it from an analogue only to ten sports channels and interactive services, Williams said, paying tribute to its former leader.
