The movie rental service is part of Google’s Play store which allows Android users to watch movies directly from their smartphone and tablet. Everyone else not using Android can still use the video on demand service via Play on computers or through Google-owned YouTube.

Play’s video library consists of titles from a wide range of film studios, including The Walt Disney Company, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, NBCUniversal, Village Roadshow Pictures and Lionsgate. Local distribution companies Roadshow Films, Icon Film Distribution, Madman Entertainment, Hopscotch and Transmission Films are also participating according to a ZDNet report.

New releases can be rented from $5.99 in SD or at $6.99 for HD resolution. Older titles are also available at $3.99, while several YouTube movies and documentaries are no-cost.

Users have 30 days to start watching the flick and 48 hours to finish once viewing has begun. Also, they can be watched offline and users with linked Youtube-Google accounts can share titles across both platforms.
