Hitachi has revealed it is about to launch the first stage of a global branding campaign, the company’s first. Leveraging a product placement and cross promotion deal with the latest Hollywood blockbuster War of the Worlds.

Hitachi products to feature in the film include plasma screens, an LCD projector and the company’s DVD camcorder. The cross promotional campaign to be launched in Australia includes a Foxtel promo running currently as well as a three month print campaign featuring the whole range of Hitachi digital media products.

The company has also previewed a number of new products to be released between now and the end of the year. First of the new products from the Hitachi storehouse is an updated range of DVD camcorders including a 2.1 mega pixel sensor in the top of the range camera. Hitachi has made some advances with its fifth generation DVD cams including the addition of a flash for digital still images and a night light for shooting video at night. The night light is actually the LCD display which can be swivelled to point the way you are shooting. Though it only has a short rage, the LCD gives off enough light to get “some image”.

Hitachi has announced it plans to introduce a DVD recorder with HDD later this year. The company has also revealed plans to release an entry-level 42 inch plasma screen.
