The latest refresh of the IE7 browser code is ‘layout complete’ meaning the rendering engine is ready for testing.

Microsoft announced the refresh release at the MIX 06 conference in Las Vegas and while some Web reports indicated the refresh to Beta 2 preview may not be made public, a new version was posted to the Microsoft site yesterday. Find it here.

The Beta 2 release is now what Microsoft calls “layout complete” meaning the rendering engine and CSS interpretation appear as they will in the final release giving Website developers an opportunity to make adjustments to existing sites in preparation for the new browser.

The Beta 2 preview released in January features a number of improvements including tabbed browsing and increased security. Microsoft considered that release ‘feature complete’, so save some bug hunting, we hope the browser is pretty much how it will be when it finally reaches market.

According to reports, Microsoft plans to distribute a number of compatibility testing tools at MIX also.

For anybody that hasn’t had a look, but is tempted to try out IE7 Beta 2, we can attest that the uninstal process worked fine on our machine.
