With rumours of white iPhone and metal backed iPhone 5 flying around, it now seems the next iPhone instalment may not be much different to it predecessor.

The only discernible departures from its current model is said to be its A5 processor, eight-megapix camera, and a dual-mode baseband chip, according to Apple Insider, who’s source is know-it-all Ming-Chi Kuo of Concord Securities.

In that case, maybe fans should hold out for the iPhone 6, whose rumour mill is already taking shape.

So will it be any different and do we even care?

Well we should, apparently. The 6 is said to be faster (processor, even maybe dual-core), better (camera 10m MP), higher (memory 64 /128 GB).

And it is said to come in a multitude of colours and a graphene touchscreen, which represents Apple attempt at eco-friendliness.

Other ‘green’ credentials it could feature are an ORB (organic radical battery) and a case made out of of naturally-sourced plastic. Expect other innovations with materials also.

Additional features could include: Near-Field Communication, 4G (very likely), transparent screen, face or thumb recognition.

So, when will it be here?

Early 2012, Kuo believes, which is sooner than expected due to the “fierce competition” currently in the smartphone market, meaning Apple could be biding its time, whetting appitites with 5 but perhaps 6 will be the real satisfier.

Kuo also reckons iPhone 5 will be unveiled at Worldwide Developers Conference, San Francisco on June 6-10.
