Despite the Auran collapse, Communications Minister Stephen Conroy will soon be reminded of his pre-election pledge to extending tax rebates to the $110 million-a-year gaming industry.
The Game Developers Association of Australia chief executive Greg Bondar says he is confident of meeting Conroy in early January – and will deliver the reminder.
Conroy said the GDAA should “have a seat at the table” of a review into the 40 percent tax rebate given to the film industry.
“France, Canada is; why can’t it be Australia?,” he asked. “We want to push this further … we believe we’re a good opportunity for investors.”
This mightn’t be such a good time, however. Auran is in administration after getting millions from the Commonwealth’s export finance group, the National Australia Bank and possibly Chinese investors.
