As Sony CEO Carl Rose said, “I am not that surprised at the results as they have a good retail model, they are focused on what they are doing, they are very clear on where they want to be so I am not that surprised that they are doing well.”

Furthermore, notes Rose, “JB HiFi has built a great momentum in the home electronics market and unlike some other retailers it knows where it wants to be and where it is going”.

Moreover he says, “JB are very good in the audio space, and as you may be aware, there is a much higher mark-up in audio than on TV’s for example and after all they do have the word ‘hi-fi in their name, so again, they do this better than some other retailers”.

And in terms of end of year results for JB HiFi, Rose was optimistically cautious. “No-one can rest on their laurels, if you go back 10 years you would find that there were other retailers who were on top as this is a fast-changing industry, but as I said earlier, they [JB HiFi] know exactly were they are going so I expect they will be doing well for a while”.
