JB HiFi is looking to expand into the New Zealand market according to a report in the Australian Financial Review.

The head of JB Hi-Fi says the company – one of Australia’s biggest home entertainment chains – is scouting out several locations, and hopes to open its first store in Auckland by this time next year.

Richard Uechtritz has said that the plan is to open four or five stores in Auckland, before expanding into other parts of the country. However he is cautious of the faltering New Zealand economy.

JB Hi-Fi has 60 outlets in Australia, and specialises in plasma screen TVs, digital cameras and DVD players. The company is one of Australia’s top three camera sellers, and is also the biggest DVD retailer in Australia.
