Like A Tiger--Nokia Joins Paws For Big Pussy

According to reports from the Business Standard, Finnish mobile handset maker Nokia has joined paws, err, hands with the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and an Indian state government, in support that countrys tiger conservation initiative.

As part of this association, Nokia and the WWF-India, will work towards providing education to villagers for sustainable development, increasing awareness on tiger conservation and the joint initiative will also identify alternative employment programs for the villagers living around National Parks were the endangered tiger lives, according to the report.

According to the report, Ravi Singh, Secretary General and CEO, WWF-India said, “This is an important step in bringing corporate institutional support for conservation, significantly tiger conservation, in India. This is an important beginning at this critical time for conservation in our country.”    

He noted that the tiger population in India “has seen an alarming decrease with their habitats shrinking and several threats, including poaching taking a toll on their survival”.    

Nokia said it would work with WWF to strengthen the sustainable and alternative livelihood program and to link them with other existing schemes with the co-operation with the State Government of Rajasthan.
