'Like Glass': Samsung Build See Through LCD 22 Inch

The TV giant is making the world’s most transparent LCD panel, with 1680 X 1050 resolution.

The LCD’s will come in black-and-white and colour, with a contrast ratio of 500:1 with WSXGA+(1680*1050) resolution.
 
It will have the world’s most transparent display screen – 20 percent for the black-and-white type and 15 percent for the colour type, Samsung said on Friday, which enables viewers look right through the panel “like glass.”

And Samsung’s new baby also has HDMI and USB port, which began production last month.

This compares with the conventional LCD panels that use back light unit and have around 5 percent transparency.

The 22″ display will also be highly energy efficient to boot, consuming 90 percent less electricity compared with a conventional panels using back light because transparent LCD panels use natural light sources.
 
Transparent displays are widely used in advertising, on show windows and outdoor billboards and can also be used in business as “interactive communication device.”

And the Korean giant plans to be the leaders in the display field.

“With the world’s first mass production of the transparent LCD panel,
Samsung plans to lead the global transparent LCD market by developing
various applications,” he said.

 

 “Transparent displays will have a wide range of uses in all industry
areas as an efficient tool for delivering information and
communication,” said Younghwan Park, Senior VP, at Samsung LCD.
