McAfee has managed to fix a major security flaw with its software used in large corporations – without being aware it was doing so.
The problem was contained in the company’s ePolicy Orchestrator (ePO) Common Management Agent. A vulnerability meant that any computer the software was installed on could have been open to hackers.
However the company has just admitted that the problem was fixed by a routine system upgrade in January, before McAfee was aware of the problem.
A spokesperson says this fix does not apply to older versions of the software, which is used on 40 million PCs in large organisations around the world.
