Over one-third of business professionals in the Asia-Pacific region know of a corporate security breach that has occurred because of a compromised password, according to research by RSA Security.

The poll of more than 1300 business professionals from around the world found that many think that multiple passwords continue to pose a significant security risk.

Examples of breaches resulting from a compromised password include former employees accessing confidential information and altering a fellow employee’s private HR information.

An alarming 85 percent of respondents were at least moderately concerned about the impact of passwords on IT security.

The survey asked respondents whether they though a master password, which replaces all other passwords, would be helpful in easing the burden. 56 percent said this would be extremely helpful. A further 81 percent added that it would be extremely important to add another layer of protection for a master password.
