NAB Jump On iPad 2 Wagon As M-Banking Explodes

As iPad 2 is released today, a slew of accompanying apps are on the way. The release of NAB iPad 2 banking app comes as mobile banking has exploded by 250 per cent in the past year.

It is is now its fastest growing channel, it said yesterday with millions of log-ins to NAB Internet Banking done via mobile devices –  equating to 12.5 per cent of NAB’s total internet banking traffic.

This is all down to the popularity of smartphones and tablets in Australia, says NAB Manager of Digital, Direct Banking Chris Smith.

The NAB app, which first launched in May 2010, offers Internet banking, a store and ATM locator, as loan/savings options and handy currency convertors.  

The upgraded version will be available in the Apple App Store in coming weeks, say the Bank who have recently conducted a high profile “break – up” campaign against the other ‘Big 4’ rivals. 

And it looks like NAB aren’t the only Aussie bank to step up its online service offering. 

Rivals Bankwest have revamped thier web offering which they say is inspired by online shopping sites, allowing customers to purchase loans and other products. The bank from WA has also the release of a new iPhone app for its mobile customers.

“As smartphones and tablets become increasingly popular, thousands of customers are downloading our apps every month and are enjoying the 24/7 convenience of mobile banking and access to their money on-the-move,” Smith said.

“NAB is working to give our customers more choice of how they bank and make it easier for them to manage their money.

 

The banking app is also available for  Google Android devices or via the Apple App Store, with the iPad 2 app due “in the coming weeks” it said yesterday.
