Seagate has commenced worldwide distribution of the world’s first 7200RPM notebook PC hard drive with 160GB capacity and free-fall protection.
The Momentus 7200.2 drive uses perpendicular recording technology to deliver the storage capacity as well as a Serial ATA 3.0 Gbit/second interface for advanced performance.
The optional free-fall sensor helps prevent drive damage and data loss if the notebook happens to be dropped.
The drive is designed for a range of systems aside from notebooks, including workstations, RAID enclosures and small form-factor desktop PCs.
The new drive will be available in Australia in the second quarter of the year with pricing to be disclosed closer to the date.
