Seagate is set to launch a new NAS storage system that has four bays that can accomodate 3.5 inch drives. Described as ideal for the the home the device is expected to go on sale in Australia shortly.
The BlackArmor NAS 400 also has two gigabit Ethernet ports and four USB 2.0 connections for connecting additional drives or printers.
Backup and protection tools are included, and can serve up to 50 network-connected PCs. Incremental or full system backups can be set. The bays are hot-swappable, and the NAS has user-configurable RAID 0/1/5/10 and JBOD (just a bunch of disks) capabilities. The storage hub can centralise media files on a network and share them with DLNA-compliant devices or through its own iTunes server according to Electronista.
The empty device can now be purchased through Seagate’s website for $400. Buyers can opt to fill it with drives before it ships, though this adds to the price.
