Gunther Ottendorfer, Managing Director of Optus Networks, is to return home to his native AustriaGunther Ottendorfer is to go home to take up the role of Chief Technology Officer of Telekom Austria Group, it was announced today.
Ottendorfer played a massive part in steering the roll-out of Optus 3G and new 4G network over the last two years and a big personality in the telco industry.
Kevin Russell, CEO, Optus Consumer praised his contribution in building and strengthening the Optus network.
“Gunther has done an outstanding job in leading a team that has overseen the launch of the highly competitive Optus 4G network and strengthened our 3G capacity. Gunther’s impact on our network is enjoyed by our 9 million mobile customers every day as they surf the internet, stream video and connect with friends and family,” Mr Russell said.
Mr Ottendorfer said he is” proud of our achievements in the last two years, particularly in launching the superfast Optus 4G network, and upgrading over 4,000 3G sites for stronger 3G coverage nationally.
“I have greatly valued my time running and building the Optus network and feel certain I will leave it in a great place – a strong, competitive network and a real choice for Australian mobile users.”
But he added “I’m looking forward to returning home to Austria with my family, and the opportunity ahead with Telekom Austria.”
Ottendorfer will continue his leadership role at Optus until mid 2013, while working on a transition plan.
