Samsung’s Galaxy Note, which yours-truly finds an abomination of a smartphone (or was it an abomination of a tablet?), has been experiencing strong demand following the sale of 5 million units.

The figure falls short of successful conventional smartphones, but is healthy considering the Note appeals to a niche. Its gi-normous 5.3 inch touchscreen gives it a profile that dwarfs competitor smartphone giants, but for some reason has garnered wide-spread appeal.

Nicknamed ‘phablet’ for its phone-meets-tablet size, Samsung tout the Note as the number one smartphone of European consumer groups, citing its touch screen, call quality and ‘phone quality’ for its appeal.

The Note has also given Samsung the push it needs to dominate sales in Korea where it is now the leading phone provider.
