The latest Seagate drives combine a massive half-terabyte capacity with fast 3Gbit/second SATA throughput and Native Command Queuing (NCQ).
The Barracuda 7200.9 drive family is targeted at media, gaming, high-end workstations or even low-cost and SATA servers for small offices. To simplify integration, Barracuda 7200.9 automatically configures the drive to either new 3Gbit/second or legacy 1.5Gbit/second SATA systems.
“System builders are increasingly demanding advanced storage capabilities that enable their products to move more digital content at higher speeds in both single- and multi-user environments,” said Brian Dexheimer, Seagate executive vice president of Global Sales and Marketing. “With the Barracuda 7200.9 family, Seagate is delivering the industry’s leading combination of capacity, performance, and reliability to meet the system performance and reliability requirements for applications including digital video editing and production, CAD/CAM, and data and image analysis.”
“Seagate, the leader in desktop PC hard drive market share for more than three years, has improved its desktop drive offerings with the introduction of Barracuda 7200.9,” said Dave Reinsel, director of storage research at IDC. “Seagate’s newest family of drives will help enable some of the latest high-end desktop PCs and low-cost servers on the market today.”
