The world’s smallest performance car has just been launched by the prestige auto maker, BMW.
As any car lover will know, a new BMW is always something to bring fans drooling at the mouth but also has state-of-the-art equipment and performance to boot.

In addition to air conditioning and cruise control, the audio system BMW Radio Business with MP3-capable CD player and six speakers come as standard.

Optional extras include two-zone automatic air conditioning, comfort access, a rain sensor, automatic anti-dazzle interior and exterior mirrors, the Harman Kardon Surround Sound System and the navigation system Professional with hard drive storage.

In conjunction with the navigation system, the BMW 1 Series M Coupe is fitted with the operating system iDrive which enables control of infotainment, navigation and communication functions using the controller and an 8.8-inch control display.

Buyers can also have the option of model-specific selection of equipment, which includes the BMW ConnectedDrive program.

However, this new 2-door model is also one of the most ground breaking cars the European maker has brought out for the mass market, bringing all the advantages of a racing car to an everyday driver experience.

Its 6-cylinder engine with M TwinPower Turbo and petrol direct injection develops a maximum output of 250 kW/340 bhp and is identical to the one used in the Z4 35is coupe-convertible.

The designers have brought high performance technology into the coupe, a first for a BMW model in this M class.

This coupled with the racing inspired chassis technology and a power-to-weight ratio reduced to 4.4 kilograms per bhp, makes it deliver speeds of 0-100km/h in just 4.9 seconds, and reaches the 200 km/h mark after 17.3 seconds. This is aided and abetted by air curtains which allows superior power aerodynamics.

It has a torque of 450Nm although this can reach 500Nm with ‘overboost’ technology during high acceleration moves such as overtaking.

The BMW 1 Series M Coupe is also fuel friendly, boasting a 9.6 litres per 100 km consumption, meaning drivers won’t  suffer at the petrol pumps.

“The exclusively designed interior of the 4-seater, high-quality materials and an M-specific cockpit create the ambience of a premium sports car,’ says BMW.

Its interior also doesn’t fail to please the eye, with its characteristic M cockpit, Boston leather sports seats and orange contrast stitching on the black surfaces of the seats and backrests.

The M leather steering wheel has multifunction keys for operating the audio and telephone systems.

The interior trim strips, door panels and cockpit scoop come in dark Alcantara, an important characteristic of sports cars generally are its dark colours which dominate inside the vehicle, thereby enhancing the driver’s concentration on the road, says BMW.

The M Coupe is the both the shortest and the flattest model in the range and is also 55 millimetres wider than the 135i Coupe.

At a width of 1,803 millimetres at the front, it is reflective of a track width, seamlessly continuing its race car feel and look throughout for the driver.

One hundred units are said to be available on the Australian market by August and it is available in three distinctive colours; Alpine White, Sapphire Black metallic and Valencia Orange.
