Rob Forsyth is to be elevated to Managing Director, Asia Pacific while, Jim Dowling scores a news title, Director of Sales, Asia.

Forsyth gets the new Asia responsibilities without going expat to Singapore. Forsyth has been Managing Director for ANZ for the last three years.

During that time, he’s been part of Asia Pac (ex-Japan) growth of 50 per cent year-on-year growth since 2002. His reward is to play a key role in the establishment of an Asia Pacific Technical Support Centre of Excellence and SophosLabs research facilities for the region.

“Rob’s extensive experience has helped Sophos achieve an impressive market position in Australia and New Zealand, and I am delighted that he will now be heading up our operations across the Asia Pacific region,” said Steve Munford, CEO of Sophos. “Security threats are changing rapidly and Sophos is well placed to give leadership and grow strongly as the market evolves.”

An ex-SOCOG HR staffer for five years, Forsyth was appointed to the board of directors of the Internet Industry Association (IIA) in 2005.

Other staff appointments include Jim Dowling who is to become Director of Sales, Asia. Dowling is based in Singapore, where he most recently toiled for IBM, he will report directly to Forsyth. He has also held regional roles with TechPacific, BHP and Pasminco.

At the top of the heap, Sophos recently appointed former COO Steve Munford to the role of CEO worldwide following the decision by co-founders and former joint CEOs, Dr Jan Hruska and Dr Peter Lammer to serve only on the company’s board.

Munford joined Sophos in 2003 after the acquisition of the anti-spam specialist ActiveState where he was president. After a stint as president of Sophos for North America he became COO for nine months.
