Media Tablets have emerged as the ‘promising new talent’ ahead of eBook readers and netbooks as ABI Research published data on shipments, price and revenue results for the third quarter of 2010.
As expected, Apple iPads were the leader, commanding a 93 percent share.
Senior practice director Jeff Orr said however that he expected Apple’s first-to-market advantage would erode over time.
eBooks also continued to bring new products to consumers, with Barnes & Noble introducing a colour versin of its Nook reader to the US market. The market continued to show new capabilities among products, including Apples third generation Kindle.
Netbooks however showed slow progess although PC OEMs breathed life into the segment by introducing new platforms that offered dual-core processors, and lighter/thinner devices with significantly better performance, sleek styling, and visual appeal in the third quarter.
