Tens Of Thousands Of Consumers Give New iPhone 5 The Thumbs Down
0Overall Score

Consumers have spoken and it is not looking good for the new Apple iPhone 5.

As soon as the iPhone 5 was launched earlier today, consumers and technology journalists rushed to pass their opinion on the new Apple iPhone 5 and if a poll of 16,000 consumers by Fairfax Media is anything to go by, consumer sentiment for the new Apple smartphone is not looking good.

10% said the phone was “awful and there are much better phones out there, 14% said the new device was “completely overrated,” 9% said it is “disappointing”, 20% said it was only a “small improvement”, while only 12% said it was “fantastic” and a “big improvement.

The sample of 16,000+ consumers was a massive increase on the Newspoll Federal Government survey that is based on 1,129 interviews among voters.

The news for Apple was not any better at News Ltd where consumer tweets were predominantly negative. Slavek Gronski wrote “What? A bigger screen and a new connector? Really? Is that all? #iPhone5”

“It’s the $64m question on everyone’s lips – Is the screen better protected or will it still smash when you accidentally drop it” said another social network user.

Jade of Melbourne said “Hope The #Iphone5 has the following: a longer charger, longer battery life and a screen which don’t smash instantly as it touches the floor!”.

Fraser Simpson said “Don’t really see the point in buying the iPhone5, looks pretty much the same and I hate that the screen is bigger, looks very smash-able”.

The new 4-inch display screen on the iPhone 5 has the same ‘Retina’ resolution as its predecessor, with a pixel density of 326 per inch, but it is still smaller than the 4.8″ display on the SIII.

The new Apple offering comes with a slimmer, aluminium-backed body and at this stage 4G; however, several companies who own a swag of 4G LTE patents, including Samsung and HTC, are looking to kick Apple off the 4G LTE platform claiming they are in breach of their patents.

The iPhone 5 comes in either white and silver or black and slate and will be sold in Australia for $799 for the 16GB model, $899 for the 32GB model and $999 for the 64GB model. Apple said customers could pre-order from this Friday.
