VoIP Booms In February

VoIP sales boomed during February, which is normally a quiet time of year, according to one manufacturer.

The local distributor of broadband router brand Billion, PC Range, reports that sales during the first two months of 2007 were 20 percent higher than during the traditionally busy pre-Christmas trading period of November and December.

According to PC Range’s managing director, Raaj Menon: “The big sellers are the Billion 7404 VGP M (the company’s flagship VoIP-enabled ADSL 2+ router) and the Billion 7300 G.

“A lot of people are looking for VoIP while others are just looking for a cheap but reliable wireless router.”

PC Range also reported that over the past year, VoIP-enabled broadband routers accounted for more than 50 percent of Billion’s Australian sales, as opposed to 1.3 percent in 2004 to 2005.

“VoIP routers are selling like hotcakes, whereas in 2005 they were a rarity,” Menon says.
