Western Digital has released a new drive called the My Book VelociRaptor Duo. It has two 1TB 10,000 RPM drives that can transfer data at a rate of 400MB/second. At that rate, it can transfer 22 GB full-length HD movies can be in less than 65 seconds, 2000 5 MB pictures in less than 33 seconds and over 500 5 MB songs in less than 8 seconds.
It’s designed specifically for photographers, graphic designers and post-production professionals who use Apple Mac computers as it can handle intensive tasks like video editing and 3D rendering.
The drive also supports RAID 0 and RAID 1 technology. RAID 0 enhances the drives speed and capacity, while RAID 1 creates a second copy of all content as a backup.
Multiple VelociRaptor drives can be daisy chained together via the two thunderbolt ports without a loss in quality (one is included in the box), and the JBOD (Just a Bunch Of Disks) option ensures it is compatible with Mac computers that run Windows.
Western Digital’s My Book VelociRaptor Duo is available now with a recommended retail price of $1,249 and comes with a 3-year limited warranty.
