Westpac Burnt By Battery Backup
0Overall Score

Westpac’s computing luck seems to be running out – after major problems with the bank’s website last month, now the company’s Sydney office building has been evacuated after a battery backup supply exploded.

Hundreds of workers were evacuated today after the blaze broke out at around 2:30pm in a fifth-floor computer room of the Kent Street Westpac building, according to reports from News Limited.

HAZMAT entered the scene and smothered the electrical fire with carbon dioxide.

About 600 workers had to wait an hour and a half before the Fire Brigade let them back into the building at 4pm.

Last month Westpac’s website was repeatedly down with millions of Westpac customers forced to go more than 16 hours over two days without access to internet banking.
