Developers and capable enthusiasts will be relishing the sweet taste Android Jelly Bean today after Google released its source code.
Lead engineer of the Android open source project, Jean-Baptiste Queru, encouraged third party development in a company blog post.
“We recommend that you create new clients, even if you’re working in the master branch,” Queru said. “It’ll make your clients smaller and faster to sync.”
Also released today was the proprietary binaries for Google’s upcoming Nexus 7 and the Galaxy Nexus, with those belonging to the Nexus S and Xoom due to follow.
Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) benefits from a few incremental updates, including enhanced touch responsiveness, improved voice recognition, overhauled search and, according to CNet, Google Now, which aims to anticipate relevant information at any moment.
