LG Electronics Australian PR department must be desperate for publicity, when at 3.45pm on a Friday afternoon, when most technology media companies are packing up for the weekend, LG decides to put out a 24-hour old press release to Australian journalists for a US Super Bowl commercial which will not go to air till February 1st 2016 in the USA.
The press release devoid of any video was a teaser for a new
OLED TV commercial shot by Ridley Scott’s production company, RSA Films.
Media in the UK, USA and Asia got the same press release
yesterday, so did overseas PR Wire Service’s.
This is not surprising as LG Electronics Australia has
developed the practise of treating Australian media with contempt since the
appointment of Phillip Anderson who was parachuted into the Australian role back
in 2012, after a stint at LG head office in Korea.
It was Anderson who told ChannelNews that they did not want
us writing about the fact that LG Electronics had taken legal action in the
Australian Federal Court against UK Company Dyson, over misleading consumer
marketing claims.

This was despite the fact that overseas media had been
briefed on the action by the LG Electronics Korean press relations team,
Anderson and Korean management at LG Australia chose not to inform Australian
journalist that the action was being taken. It took ChannelNews to break the
story.
The Super Bowl commercial was not shot by the award winning
director Ridley Scott but his son Jake who appears to be more at home shooting
TV commercials than big budget movies that won his father fame.
“We are extremely excited to work with Ridley and Jake Scott
on the OLED TV Super Bowl commercial project,” said Lee Jeong-seok, vice
president and head of the Marketing Communication Division at the LG
Electronics Home Entertainment Company.
“LG will continue to
offer consumers the opportunity to witness OLED TV’s abilities for perfect
black levels and exceptional colour representation, which come together to
create a whole new viewing experience.”
