Tablet for retailers to be globally launched in Australia

Developed by tech giants Aopen and Intel, Oz is the first country globally to see the tablet designed for retailers.

Flagged as “an industrial strength media device”, touch based eTILE comes in two (unspecified) screen sizes, and runs an Intel processor.
eTILE, has multiple uses –  runs point-of-sale material, multiple media campaigns, displays, and comes with Opensign CMS (optional) that runs analytics.
It is liquid proof, can be built into a counter or hang on a wall, and can be provided as an embedded module into retail kiosks, spokesperson Caroline Shawyer told CN.
Built for retail and hospitality, it promises to transform physical stores into a ‘digital shopping experience.’
“Its a totally new category” says Shawyer.
Currently there is no commercial device retailers can use, only low end consumer tablets. iPad, widely used by retailers for point of sale, displays, “is not robust enough,” she says.
Jointly developed by Aopen with Intel taking the lead on design in Taiwan, eTILE is being market tested in an unnamed  “high profile retailer” in Australia and retailers have also been giving feedback at testing in Melbourne’s Retail Evolution Lab.
Already two resellers and two retail solutions providers have taken on eTILE locally, although Shawyer would not confirm their identities.
AOpen, Intel and resellers will distribute eTILE in the channel.

No word on the price, but CN is told it is “really affordable.”

All will be revealed by AOPEN’s Stephen Borg, and Matthew Jones, Intel Group Manager for Industry Development, at Intel Australia, North Sydney, this Thursday

The tablet for retail will soon debut at Aopen Forum in San Francisco, US on September 12-13.
