Chances are new HTC smartphones won’t be bundled with Beats headphones, causing enthusiasts initially attracted to the coupling of a high-end smartphone with edgy headphones to folk out extra coin and buy them separately.

According to HTC’s Product Executive, Martin Fitcher, headphones aren’t a driving force behind customers picking HTC smartphones over its rivals. Speaking to CNET, Fichter said:

“An accessory like the headphone doesn’t factor in when someone is buying a smartphone. If they want a Beats headphone, they’ll buy it directly.”

In August of 2011, HTC whipped out 300 million in exchange for a majority share in the headphone company founded by rapper Dr Dre. In addition to producing stylish headphones with exuberant sound quality, the brand possessed vibrant character, which HTC believed would be of benefit to their ‘quiet’ smartphones.
