Samsung To Keep Windows 7 Plans Alive

Reports out of the US suggest software giant, Microsoft, is recruiting a team to develop a Samsung phone on its ailing platform.
According to a recent job posting by Steve Ballmer’s company, the brand looks set to go ahead with development of its Windows 7 platform.

The job description, found on Microsoft’s website is looking for a programme manager to “drive the portfolio planning of the next generation of mobile devices running on Microsoft Windows Phone 7 with a leading handset manufacturer.”

And it looks like the company is going hell for leather with the fledgling platform, with a massive team consisting of phone engineers, product planners and chassis hardware teams all at work developing “hardware roadmaps, software and services development in sync with mobile industry cadence,” according to the ad.

And its not only Samsung that Microsoft is turning its attention to. The software firm was said to have recently signed a $1billion deal with Nokia, for its full support on its new Windows 7 software.

The deal could be the winning bet Windows 7 needs, considering Nokia’s massive prowess in the mobile industry, being the top phone maker by shipments.

“This gives Microsoft scale and allows Nokia to rip out costs,” said Colin Gillis, an analyst at BGC Partners in New York.
Microsoft said they sold over 1.5 million of its Windows 7 system for Smartphones in the six weeks since launch last year.

“We know we have tough competition, and this is a completely new product,” says Achim Berg, Microsoft’s Business VP for Windows Phones.

“We’re in the race – it’s not a sprint but we are certainly gaining momentum.”
