Sony has entered a new category with its first full-HD LCD screen for commercial applications, boasting a 52-inch display housed in a dust and tamper-resistant chassis.

The GXD-L52H1 1920 x 1080 display repels dust using a system which allows air to be circulated inside the unit, dismissing heat and ensuring no dust penetrates the body, making it suitable for shopping malls, transport stations and other public places.

The metal bezel is easily removable allowing the taper-resistant front glass panel to be replaced when necessary.

The unit also offers a 178-degree viewing angle allowing viewability from various locations.

“Sony continues to strengthen its position in the LCD display market by delivering advanced technologies to display high definition, photo-quality images and deliver a richer colour experience,” said Sony Australia Professional Display Group product manager, Les Boros.

“In addition to offering excellent picture quality to our B2B customers, Sony has also factored in practical features such as the anti-dust mechanism to ensure that the LCD display remains robust, safe and reliable.”

The LCD can be flush-mounted, with minimal back-ventilation needed due to lack of external air holes, says Sony.

When the panel reaches its end-of-life, the operator will be prompted – in the meantime, a CCFL (Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp) backlight control allows the unit to operate even when one or two CCFLs are down.

The unit also features built-in LAN for networking several displays by a single operator.
