<p>The NBN co warns scammers are trying to mislead people by informing them their service will be disconnected should they not provide a ‘technician’ online access to their computer.</p>
<p>Security concerns have become heightened as more Australians work-from-home amid the COVID19 pandemic, many on company laptops/PCs.</p>
<p>It joins a variety of other phishing emails and online attempts.</p>
<p>“With scammers increasing their efforts to use COVID-19 to steal people’s personal or financial details, we are starting to see the emergence [of] <b>nbn</b> related COVID-19 scams, so we are working with agencies like Scamwatch to continue to monitor the situation and alert the community,” states NBN Co Chief Security Officer, Darren Kane.</p>

<p>Mr Kane has urged Australian businesses and staff to not get complacence with the security of their work devices and documents despite the complacency which can emerge from working-from-home.</p>

<p>“It is important to not click on the links or attachments in suspicious emails and never respond to unsolicited messages.,” Kane adds.</p>
<p>“This is even more important for all of us that are working from home, as scammers are on the hunt for ways to get access and disrupt home and corporate networks.”</p>
<p>The NBN Co is advising Australians to not leave their work laptop or devices unattended or in ‘unsecured areas’, and prevent family members from using them for personal use. The agency warns it runs the risk of work devices being accidentally inflected.</p>
<p>Australians are also being advised to heighten their home network security, and change the default administrators password on their home router.</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>MELBOURNE: NBN Co has revealed its network data performance figures for the first time since self-isolation and work-from-home restrictions were introduced due to the coronavirus outbreak.</p>
<p><span style="font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit;">The figures show that peak data during business hours has 25 percent. The figures are the first of what will be increased 20 percent, while the 9pm peak period is also up. NBN Co said increases of up to 30 percent or around 12.8 terabytes per second have been recorded.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit;">Daytime broadband load had almost doubled during March, compared to February, with peak broadband demand 27 percent above normal levels and mobile peak traffic 22 percent higher.</span></p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>NBN Co has recorded a loss of $4.24 billion for the year to June 30, taking total losses over the last four years to $10.7 billion.</p>
<p>It’s a major increase from last year’s $2.75 billion loss, but is within expectations for the NBN rollout, which has been geared up dramatically over the past year.</p>
<p>The rollout plan does not expect the company to become cashflow-positive before about 2021, as the rollout is completed.</p>
<p>NBN Co chairman Ziggy Switkowski told The Australian the latest result was equal to, or better than, what NBN had planned for.</p>
<p>“It’s perfectly understandable that in these early years, as the annual revenue moves through the billion-dollar mark on its way to approximately $5bn in the early 2020s, that the costs have outpaced the revenues by a very wide margin,” Switkowski said.</p>
<p>“After all, we’re spending $49bn to get to this business in shape. By around 2021 we should be cash flow positive – so the numbers are very consistent with the plan.”</p>
<p>NBN Co says it now has 5.7 million properties ready for service – up 97 per cent from a year earlier – and so far has activated some 2.4 million properties.</p>
<p>Switkowski also defended the payment of CEO Bill Morrow, which came in at $3.56 million for the year to June 30.</p>
<p>“Dollar-for-dollar, there probably is no more productive and better performing CEO in the land than Bill Morrow,” said Ziggy.</p>
