]]>It has already purchased some 1200 Chrome OS devices to replace Windows computers in Service NSW self-service kiosks.
Service NSW has calculated that the Chrome desktops require only five percent of the support hours previously required by its Windows devices.
The agency also saved costs by ditching private WAN networks, relying instead on broadband and Wi-Fi. According to a recent report by Service NSW’s CTO Colin Jones and former CIO Ben McMullen: “When you add in the savings on devices and IT management, we’re targeting reducing our operational costs by 46 percent per year.”

]]>In Australia it is now “easily the largest software category, with revenue forecast to grow 20.6 percent to reach A$2.2 billion in 2018,” according to a new Gartner report.
It’s a similar story in New Zealand, Gartner says, with Kiwi-based CRM forecast to exceed NZ$200 million in 2018, up 19.5 percent from last year.
Globally, CRM software revenue amounted to US$39.5 billion in 2017, overtaking DBMS (database management system) revenue, which reached $36.8 billion in the same year, according to Gartner’s latest CRM report.
And, it seems, you ain’t see nothing yet. “In 2018, CRM software revenue will continue to take the lead of all software markets and be the fastest growing software market with a growth rate of 16 percent,” said Gartner research director Julian Poulter.
He added that the strong growth rate of CRM software revenue is driven in particular by the segments of lead management, voice of the customer and field service management, each of which is achieving more than 20 percent growth.

]]>In July 2018, the Japanese company’s Facial Recognition Server Software (WV-ASF950) and Face Registration Expansion Kit (WV-ASFE951W) will launch internationally.
Launch within Panasonic’s home country of Japan will occur in August 2018.
Using deep learning technology, the company claims its software identifies faces which are otherwise difficult to recognise with conventional methods.
This includes identifying individuals wearing sunglasses, faces which have changed appearance with ageing, or images captures with titled or angled faces.
Panasonic’s new facial recognition software also features a special “iA (intelligent Auto) mode”, which automatically adjusts camera settings for optimal image capture.
Used with the company’s i-PRO EXTREME series network cameras and its bundled “Best Shot License Key”, only the best images will be sent to servers for facial recognition.
As such, server and network loads are reduced, passing on an estimated 40% – 50% reduction in overall system costs.
Panasonic reveals it will debut a function to recognise faces covered with surgical masks by the end of 2018.
Full product specifications can be read here.

]]>The change was spotted on a Microsoft support post describing the new changes to Window and Office servicing and support.
In the post Microsoft defends its decision by saying, “Modern software not only provides new features to help people do their best work, but also new, more efficient manageability solutions and more comprehensive approaches to security. Software that is more than a decade old, and hasn’t benefited from this innovation, is difficult to secure and inherently less productive.”
The Verge points out this move is designed to push businesses who do not have Office 365 into subscriptions. This update will not affect Office for Mac.
Microsoft Office 2019 will be releasing during the second half of 2018, includes perpetual versions of the Office apps (including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, and Skype for Business) and servers (including Exchange, SharePoint, and Skype for Business).
Microsoft says previews of the new products will start shipping mid-year 2018.
In a post Microsoft says, ‘Office 2019 will add new user and IT capabilities for customers who aren’t yet ready for the cloud. For example, new and improved inking features—
