As exclusively reported by ChannelNews last month Samsung has officially flicked Edelman Public Relations and appointed Weber Shandwick. However Weber Shandwick appear to have little understanding of the technology and appliance channel with reseller news sites like Current and ChannelNews being deliberately isolated from the announcement of their appointment.
This fly’s in the face of comments by Weber Shandwick who have very few technology clients and have claimed that they were appointed because they were able to demonstrate their extensive knowledge of the technology industry.
They claim that the key to the decision was Weber Shandwick’s range of propriety reporting and intelligence tools showcased during the pitch process. These are the same tools that failed to identify several key technology journalists who write about Samsung every day.
“In an Olympic year, Samsung has never been stronger. As a leader in a number of categories we are looking to further reinvigorate our PR ambition,” said Jesse James, PR Manager – Samsung Australia. “We are very excited about working with Weber Shandwick.
Emma-Jane Granleese, Managing Director at Weber Shandwick Australia added: “Weber Shandwick in Sydney has an experienced and highly creative consumer technology team that is passionate about our clients and making a difference to their business. We are thrilled to be working with Samsung and strengthening their position within the Australian market across their entire product range and sponsorship activity.”
Other clients of Weber Shandwick are Singapore Airlines, Nespresso, Johnson & Johnson, General Property Trust, VeriSign and The Royal Bank of Scotland.
