Imation took the world’s smallest hard drive, packed it into the smallest form factor it could and came up the Micro Hard Drive.

The diminutive drive is priced at $249 (RRP) for a 2GB drive. Only the 2GB version is available so far, but Imation plans to release a 4GB version of the storage device in the fourth quarter. No pricing on that yet.

The 0.85 inch drive connects to your PC via a USB 2.0 port, weighs a measly 5.2 grams and is 41mm x 16mm x 84mm in size.

The drive comes with software (well it’s a free download) that help you protect your files with 128-bit encryption, automatic file synchronisation and back up.

“The Imation Micro Hard Drive offers just the right mix of capacity, security and reliability for on-the-go professionals,” said Mark Gill, National Sales & Marketing Director Australia and New Zealand. “The Micro Hard Drive is perfect for content rich and rugged work environments such as advertising and geoscience industries. Whether users are sharing, storing or transporting high-capacity files, the Imation Micro Hard Drive’s design and software will ensure their files are there when they want them.”
