Wollongong, Illawarra, Taree and Mudgee are all to get the NBN fibre treatment as the project’s expansion continues over the next three years.

40 new locations, including several in Victoria, are to be launched by Comms Minister Stephen Conroy later today, which he insists proves NBN Co are “on track” to meeting their roll out targets.

Western Sydney suburbs Homebush, Penrith and Blacktown also to get expanded fibre coverage in the next phase of NBN Co $37bn fibre network.

NBN Co released its  fibre maps showing its new expansion routes today.

The Northern NSW areas of Coffs Harbour, Richmond, Dapto and Gosford are also bundled into NSW’s latest construction phase, as the political pressure on NBN Co to deliver on its roll out targets increases.

There are also several new locations announced for Victoria including Carlton and Creswick.

“The release of these maps shows that the NBN rollout is ramping up across Australia, with NBN Co on track to meet its target of having construction commenced or completed for 758,000 homes and businesses by the end of the year,” said Minister Conroy.

The new fibre maps cover 17 different construction modules.

Early construction works have already commenced in Taree, Wollongong, Dapto and Mudgee, NBN Co said today.

It takes around 12 months from the start of construction until householders and business owners can order NBN services from an ISP, and there are 45 different companies flogging fibre services on the NBN, to date.

By mid-2015, construction is forecast to have commenced or completed on delivering the NBN to more than a million premises across the state and 3.5 million premises nationwide.

The network will be completed in part by 2015 with all satellite services up and running by 2020.

NBN Co is targeting to cover 93 percent of homes and businesses with fibre, while the remaining seven percent will be served by either its Long Term Satellite Service or fixed wireless.
